How to Mirror Your iPhone to a Tesla Screen

Tesla has no CarPlay and no AirPlay — but it has an excellent browser, and that is all screen mirroring needs.

Most Tesla screen mirroring methods ask you to create a phone hotspot, connect the car to it, and type an IP address like 6.6.6.6 into the browser. Besides being fiddly, that VPN-style trick is known to interfere with Tesla features like the cameras and cruise control. CarMirror takes the opposite approach: your iPhone streams over the internet, and the Tesla simply opens a normal website. Nothing about the car's network is touched.

Step by step

  1. Install CarMirror on your iPhone — iOS 16 or newer. Open the app and tap the beam button — iOS asks once to start the screen broadcast.
  2. Open the Tesla browser — While parked, tap the browser icon in the launcher and go to carmirror.live.
  3. Enter your 6-digit code — The app shows a code like 123456. Type it in the Tesla browser (or go directly to carmirror.live/123456).
  4. Go full screen — Tap the fullscreen button in the corner. Your iPhone screen is now live on the Tesla display with sub-second delay.

Watching YouTube on the Tesla screen

Once mirroring is running, just open YouTube (or any app) on your iPhone — video and sound play on your phone while the picture fills the Tesla screen. Tap the video once in the Tesla browser to unmute audio there.

MCU2 or MCU3 — does it matter?

No. Because CarMirror only needs the built-in Chromium browser, it works the same on older MCU2 cars and the newer AMD-based MCU3. There is no app to sideload and nothing to configure in the car.

What about Netflix and Disney+?

Streaming apps with DRM copy protection (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+) black out their video during any iOS screen recording — that is an Apple/DRM restriction, not a CarMirror limitation. YouTube, Twitch, downloaded videos, photos, maps and games all mirror perfectly. Tesla Theater already covers Netflix while parked.

Prefer a setup with zero network tricks? Read why hotspot-free Tesla mirroring matters, or see the universal car mirroring guide.

Safety: CarMirror is for parked cars and passengers. Watching video on the driver display while driving is unsafe and illegal in many regions.
